Senator Godswill Akpabio is a distinguished Nigerian politician, lawyer, and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, currently serving as the President of the Nigerian Senate.

His career is marked by a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through visionary leadership and impactful legislation.

Born on December 9, 1962, in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio’s journey to prominence began with a solid educational foundation.

He attended Methodist Primary School, Ukana, and proceeded to Federal Government College, Port Harcourt.

He later earned a degree in Law from the University of Calabar and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.

Senator Akpabio’s political career commenced with his appointment as Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources in Akwa Ibom State.

He later served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Commissioner for Lands and Housing.

In 2007, he was elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, a position he held for two terms until 2015.

His tenure as governor was marked by unprecedented infrastructural development, educational reform, and healthcare improvements, earning him numerous accolades and the affectionate title ‘Uncommon Transformer’

Elected as the President of the Nigerian Senate in 2023, Senator Akpabio has continued his legacy of service and leadership. His tenure has focused on promoting transparency, strengthening democratic institutions, and enacting laws that foster national development and unity

As Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has spearheaded significant legislative initiatives, including reforms in the oil and gas sector, education, healthcare, and national security. His collaborative approach has helped in passing bills that address critical issues facing Nigeria today.

Beyond politics, Senator Akpabio is a devoted family man, married to Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, with whom he has four children. He is also deeply involved in philanthropic activities through the Godswill Akpabio Foundation, which focuses on education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
